Here tips based on my experiences with my "hard" ex-leader also MD (after try error). This also workable when you have something not right and required discussion with your superior:

+ List down what actually you want to sort out with your superior - working time, task etc.

+ Catch your superior in morning. The best during/after breakfast as that time normally he/she in the good mood. Ask them when he/she free to talk discuss something related to working hour / performance etc. If he/she free on that time, then highly chance to clear all stuff that you want to sort out with them.

+ First question to your superior when you enter to their room - "How are you today?" or "How was your day/morning?". This simple relax question so you also feel not stress too :)

+ Tell your superior your concerns (remember the first tip?). This the time you use that list for you to discuss about anything including your working hour.

+ Update to your Superior on pending/completed task. Possible to standby your plan of your task. If you doesn't have any plan, is not wrong to ask your superior how you can improve your performance or simplify your job or task give more effectively.

+ If the time is insufficient, ask them when he/she free on other day. You also can have 1 to 1 discussion by monthly basis.

Hope above tips is workable to you too. :)

If you have completed your daily tasks and it is time for get off work, then you can go home.

But if you are still worried that such behavior will make people feel that you are "rude", you can first ask your manager if there is anything that need your help. Leave after getting permission from your manager.
