In retail, does IT department is a stand alone department?

My company is looking into restructuring the Operation and IT department (retail industry). As such, may i know in your industry, where do IT Department sit in or is it a stand alone department?  Many thanks and have good day!

we are also retail (trading), IT is stand alone department, direct to MD
