Don't have any reference in my resume, please give me advice

I don't have any references in my resume and ended up some companies didn't hire me, I have a bad ex-direct superior and I am worried if put him as reference check for employment purposes, the ex-direct superior will talk something bad about me. So, what is the best advice for me?

References sometimes important for employers to do reference check, especially for higher position. Make sure you put someone u trust as your referral. Alternatively you can put other person you can relate with, such as HR or your HoD as long the can help to validate your previous position.
