My work experience (teaching) does not have any connection with my field of study (accounting). Should I put it in my resume or not?

If I were to answer your question, I recommend you just put your working experience inside your resume and I can give you small tips for you to look qualified as possible in your resume despite having zero relevant work experience. First, you need to check:

1. Relevant and Transferable Skills

A common resume will indeed begin with more relevant work experience or your relevant studies, but the problem staters when your relevant experience is not strong enough to attract a recruiter, so you should let them focus on your relevant skills instead. If you think that you do not have any relevant skills, that would be weird because there must be a reason why you think that you can take up the job that you want to apply right? So here I believe you do have transferable abilities from previous unrelated experience or maybe the skills that you have developed during your university project.

2. Related Side and Academic Projects

When we talk about university projects, those projects actually can be included in your resume, the same goes for your part-time job/side income job that you have but as long as you clearly state that those experiences as project work, you clearly can include it in your resume! Do not assume that a full-time job and paid experience only can be on your resume. The way that you can do this is to create a "Projects" section. You can write it in the same format as you write in your working experience. You should understand, the experience you have is valuable and should be evaluated.

3. A specific Cover Letter/Strong Introduction in Email

Let's just say, this isn't part of your resume but with a strong Cover Letter or a strong introduction in email, application is quite important especially if you do not have any relevant experience. It's a perfect opportunity for you and what you need to is you need to be very specific, so the hiring manager will have a good understanding and why it's okay and makes sense to hire you.

I hope my answer helps you accordingly. If you need more advice, feel free to get it at the AskPro website. There will be several HR experts that could give you advice regarding your career path. I wish you all the best!

If you had a job for a few months or less, the experience isn't relevant to the position you are applying for, and you're not short of work experience overall, it probably isn't necessary to include the job.
