Does the company need to pay the candidate any compensation?

If a candidate has accepted a job offer through email but hasn't signed the employment letter and the company decided to freeze hiring and redraw the offer made.

If there was no timeline mentioned to accept the offer and send back the signed copy, but the candidate was yet to send the signed copy, you can still rescind the offer. Rescind is the appropriate term to use in this case. You do not need to pay the employee any compensation when you rescind the offer letter. However, do practice caution and look into all circumstances as well. Hopefully the candidate has not resigned from his/her current employment.
