How to formally ask hr to extend start date in new job?

I got a new job that supposed to start on 3/7. But my current boss ask to stay until 5/7 to finish some work. Havent yet sign the acceptance letter. How to ask new hr to consider me starting on 5th. Will there be any impact on the offer?
