From an employer's perspective, it is rare for redesignation of departments to be done without a sound justification. Yes, tough times like right now will encourage companies to be smart with resources based on business needs, but your employer or boss would most likely redesignate you to a department that is best suited to you and your skills, performance etc. Before looking at quitting as an option, why not make your thoughts known with your human resources department, or your direct supervisor, if you feel you are not best suited for the current position and department you've been put in. I'm sure there is a reason to every business decision made, but sometimes what an employer thinks is best for the employee doesn't really align.
