People that pursue the "Dream Job" ideal are more disappointed than not. The few that did hit it likely worked very hard but also got lucky. Pursue a career that provides opportunity to pursue your dreams. Whether that be travel, leisure, gardening, restoring cars, photography, whatever.

While I can't call my job "my dream job", in that, I wouldn't hesitate to retire were I to win the lottery or something, I do like it quite a lot. It's interesting and challenging, I am happy with my boss and most upper management, colleagues, opportunities and pay/benefits. Bottom-line, I like going to work and I don't suffer from the Sunday Night Dreads. It took me a long time to get here, however. I had many, many painful years of hard, unsatisfying, under-paid work. Bad managers, back-stabbing colleagues, sexual discrimination. Pushing and striving for opportunities that were not easily given.

After years of chasing some "dream job" and some picture perfect life, I've settled on a job that is going to pay bank and allow me to live life the way I want. I've scaled back my career ambitions a good bit. There's more to me than the job I have. Works what I do not who I am. There is no picture perfect fairy tale ending.

99% of people have no "dream job". When someone asks what do you want, you've got think of in terms of - what you can get. That's good enough. Dreams are things that are unreal. They don't exist in real life and we can't explain them. So the wording "dream job" makes no sense and it's just a phrase to throw you off the path when the clever ones are thinking - I just want whatever I can get, and that's good enough.

I do have a few things i would have loved to do, but they aren't attainable or practical now. Now my dream job is one with good benefits and good pay that lets me enjoy my life outside of work.

Most people don't have and historically never had "a dream job"; You just take the best job you can find and make the best of it. It's what people have historically done. It's called adulting. Oh, and I forgot... Along with the fantasy that they are too artistically gifted, intellectually advanced, spiritually sensitive, or socially conscious to work "just any job." Just get a job.

Having a decent paying job in today's work force is a dream job.

My dream job was to be a center fielder as a major leaguer and catch the last out to clinch the World Series but I don't think that's going to happen.

You are not alone. I do not have a dream job and I have no desire to volunteer. I want to remain in my field and do a good job. However, I am concerned about my future marketability and earning potential. It is tough when you have been in your field for a long time and you are not a manager. I found one job that I am intrigued in. I think it pays more than I currently make and it is similar to what I am doing now. I printed the job description and put it on my wish board. We'll see what happens down the line.

Only a few pay the price to do what they are. Most get stuck and settle for a career they were not designed to or don't develop the necessary skills to do their dream job.

Most people are doing what pays the bills, not necessarily what they love doing.

There's a great book about finding and achieving your dreams, "Wishcraft" by Barbara Sher. A series of fun steps take you through identifying what you love into what steps you can take today to spend your life doing that. Years ago, one of the descriptions I did for the book involved an artist's studio in Hawaii, and long, white drapes on the windows. I had forgotten that, but a few years ago, I realized I had both the studio and the white drapes!

I think dream job is more of a myth than anything else. Most people just put up with whatever there job is to pay bills, routine, etc.

A job is job. Fulfilling your dreams (or lack thereof) is what you do outside of work. Let go of the concept of a "dream job."

There is nothing wrong with not having a "Dream job". The idea of a "Dream job" or something to chase after is a merely a concept/idea created by society. You are not required to have a dream job nor should there be any shame if you go your whole life without ever obtaining said job. The government only cares if you follow the law.
