Should I let my boss use my credit card for business purposes?

As a business owner, I can not think of any reason to request you use your personal credit hard for their needs. If it was a situation of not having their own card on them by mistake, sure as a courtesy you can charge it and have them pay you back, BUT, if this is by design, NO, you must establish that boundary now.

This is completely inappropriate, and I would draw a very hard line on this. By putting his subscription on your card you are taking a risk. You may incur interest charges, or you may quit and have trouble canceling the subscription. You are also setting a terrible precedent. The response needs to be a very firm no. You feel strongly that your personal expenses should not be mixed with his business expenses, and reimbursement isn't really the issue.

Absolutely not. Looking at it from a different perspective, there is nothing in that arrangement for you and only the potential for a lot of headaches, as you have pointed out. I am retired now and had my own company. I had employees use their credit cards for their business expenses for travel, etc. and it was promptly reimbursed. For employees that had regular expenses, they had company cards. I never asked an employee to put something on their card for me. And a recurring charge is all the more unacceptable.

He cannot possibly be saving that much by getting a new subscriber rate. If he's that cheap or broke, I'd be worried about whether your pay checks will be bouncing soon. Where I work all managers have corporate credit cards, but subscriptions are paid by the admin using the credit card for that purpose, plus supplies. It's all tax deductible business expense.

One word: No. No is a complete sentence. I would not do it. I don't care what his reason is.

You need to think of it as being on your personal list of rules. I had a counselor explain boundaries to me that way once and it helps me to think of them like that. To write up a list of rules, or imagine them written on a poster or whatever, in your mind. Like: 1) I never let anyone use my personal credit cards, no matter who they are, for any reason. Once it's firmly planted in your mind, it's easier to quickly say no. And it might be time to let him know that you also aren't going to let him bully you anymore. If he raises his voice with you anymore, you will be hanging up. He probably isn't stupid enough to lose a really good assistant, and normally even bullies respect people who stand up for themselves.

This is ridiculous! You could stand up to him, tell him what a jerk-off he is, blah blah... But...why not suggest to him the idea of getting a pre-paid debit card? It can be used for subscriptions and whatnot....I have a pre-paid debit card that I ended up with randomly, and I actually keep it around and load it every now and then....it's nice for those subscriptions and "free trials" that can get expensive and be a pain in the you-know-what to cancel...it's also good for ordering things on sites that I'm not 100 percent comfortable with...

Your boss should be using his own cards, whether in his name or under the business name. Be firm with him and tell him you keep your own cc spending ramped down. I know I only use my own card for gas, Netflix, and the occasional Amazon purchase and pay it off every month, so I would be drawing a line in the concrete if I were in your shoes on this.

If he is giving you the money up front I would do it. Get the points on your CC.

I'm going through this right now... but it is company expenses on my personal credit card. Accounts payable has been moved off site to corp and the company credit card charges have not been paid... corp has the money but the transition has been horrendous. I'm not worried about it but learning quickly just how screwed up things can get. If my boss asked me to pick up something and there was a glitch like happened yesterday I was not going back empty handed.

NO. Once you accept this nonsense even after you have already said no he'll pull something else. Guy sounds like a total weasel.

Under no circumstances should this happen. You are an employee, not an indentured servant. Your job is to provide physical and/or mental labor for the company you work for, not resources. No employee should ever have to shoulder the burden of any risk or any expense (and that includes everything from traffic violations to damaging something). Who is benefiting from this arrangement? Your boss is, not you; all the RISK is on your end but the REWARD is on his. That is not fair at all, is certainly dishonest, and possibly a labor violation.

No way. Especially not a subscription. I would maybe buy him lunch and get paid back but an ongoing expense? Absolutely not.

There is absolutely no reason for this. If he does not want or cannot put the subscription on a business card, he needs to use his own personal card.
