Whenever the bragging starts, begin yawning, and/or look away. Maybe you're giving the person too much attention and eye contact, which is normally encouraged. Take the opposite approach and make it obvious. Even the most dim will notice you drifting off. It might take awhile, but that will start a new pattern. The only other approach that comes to mind would be to out-brag her. That's more childish, but if the other doesn't work, you might adopt that. Some strategy will work.

I find that its best not to poke people that you have to deal with every day. If you confront her things will get tense. She will be giving you the stink eye and nit picking everything you do. That makes for a long uncomfortable day.

"Wow, that's great!" End of story.

Idk,but lots of times when the manager is younger than the other workers, the older workers get jealous. ANything the manager does gets on their nerves. Is she truly bragging or trying to make conversation and you are jealous?

She thinks you are rapt with attention....Some people have absolutely no self awareness. You may also need props....Take a tablet, and make a to do list....And physically take it in your hands when she starts talking....and look at your list. then look straight at her and say. "Nice...I'd love to hear more but I have to get this done" holding up your tablet....Then physically turn your body and focus on your work. Or, write down any work related questions that you have. As soon as she enters your space to start talking, hold up your list and say..."Oh, you're free...Can we go over my work related questions now." She sounds like she'd do anything rather than work...So she will start avoiding you.

Some women & men of all ages do this continual verbal inventory of possessions, travels, accomplishments, etc. Why they do this is a mystery to me. But this is your manager, so listen politely and say the occasional that's nice, if warranted. Do not particpate in any company gossip & do not repeat what she tells you. By focusing on the negatives, you could miss what you could learn from her. I believe if you pay attention, you can learn something from just about anyone.
