Does company take foreigner student as their intern?

Many company don't take foreign intern students? Is it because of the student visa/working permit issue? or any other issue?

My previous company got case when they took foreign intern student, when the internship period is near to end, the student dont want to leave the company and keep ask to hire him as worker, not all the company will hire them as employee due to some application process. However, is depend to your company, is no harm to take foreign intern student
