Does ageism exist in Malaysian employment market?

Will people in their late 20s or early 30s but applying for an entry level or junior position be seen as unfavorable by employer?

Yes, because you are likely to demand for a higher salary as you will more commitments at the age. Secondly, it would be harder for you to adapt to new environment or idea as you are more matured and are more likely to have a fixed mindset. HR will take these into considerations when they are hiring older applicants.

I think normally they dont check age. If you lie about 2-3 years differences, nobody really cares what is your exact age. If you are 30s and applying for junior position by putting yourself 25, lets see how.

For companies that determines their offer based on the estimation of the candidate's skill in comparison to the rest of the existing staff, less so, but the company also needs to straight up inform the candidate this, and ask if they will be alright with a pay cut or not. Some people are, some are not. I encountered such a candidate just last month, 11 years of experience, but working on the same legacy system all these time, but willing to be processed for a junior position, as he really wants to break out of the glass ceiling that he's in right now, and is willing to spend the next 2 years learning things that he won't get a chance to in his current job.

Yes because employers' expectation of candidates/ job market is naturally like the linear line. Younger for entry level jobs and as the job progressively clinched towards more senior position, the candidate is also to be someone more experienced (thus someone older). If you're in 30s and seeking for entry level job, theres a likelihood employers think "something is probably not right with this candidate". "Why is this person still seeking for junior level role?" Etc. End of the day, they might take it as you're 'overqualified' for the job. It is prejudiced but if you have a strong reason or story to backup, you will find employers who wouldnt mind.

It does exist in some companies. But PLEASE dont lie about your age. IC shows everything. The moment employers think/feel something isn't right, they may rescind the offer even if they initially thought you're a good candidate.

Sadly, it’s reality and it exists in almost every sector and scope.
