Lobby legislation to summon those that discriminate!

In terms of "surface judgement", i do agree with you everyone should be treated equally. However, based on your experience, how we define the "Ageism" and ‘Age Discrimination’?

I have personally hired 3 HR staffs (2 who were above 40 and 1 above 50) as I found them to be good and experienced. They have all been jobless for more than a year before I hired them. Coincidentally, they come from 3 different races, Indian, Malay and Chinese. They have been apparently passed off from any hiring due to their age.

My opinion, employer should hire someone who meets the qualification/ experience required instead of focusing on age, race or any other factors. Unless the job scope requires a specific physical ability. Also, not only discrimination towards older age, younger generation or fresh grads are also facing this. Employer might consider giving chance to them too. Not all fresh grads are demanding.

This is more on changing the mindset of the employer itself. I have had been to a few interviews before. One of them, the HR manager told me directly that I was the youngest amost all 5 candidates. He said being the youngest means you have the least experience. So, he spent less than 20 minutes interviewing me. Hence, i didn't get the job. It is important for the employer to put aside this age discrimination in hiring first.

A mindset and policy change need to be implemented.

Mindsets are not easily changed. That's why we need to be crafty and use behavioral science in order to induce and compell people to do the "right" thing.
