In my workplace practice, usually we will issue warning letter first, second and final once received feedback from their superior. Show cause letter issued after the final warning letter. If they did not respond to the letter, only then we will have DI. But i think this is also depend on your company practice.

My opinion. If within the quantity (number of days) of labour law, we cannot give any letters and it is their entitlement. If exceed, you need to give show cause and warning.
