Is not paying overtime a norm in Malaysia working culture?

Hi. after working for over 10 years, i found out that most of the typical Malaysia company will write something like "additional work may be required outside of stipulated office hours blablabla" which basically means that you will not be paid for any hopes of overtime compensation. Is this normal??? Why is everyone accepting this kind of agreement?

This is the work culture in Malaysia. Or i'd say asian countries. Work until you die. make your company grow like h*ll and all you get is a basic salary

Thing like this is a culture. When it comes into culture, ones can only opt to adapt and live with it, or else just quit, regardless the 'culture' is right or wrong. Aiming to change a culture is too ambitious.

Sadly to say that paying overtime is not included in the Employment act 1955, which means that the moment you sign the agreement, you have to obey whatever ridiculous T&C stated inside your agreenment.
