How to calculate employee tax rate?

If an expatriate joined in Sept 2019, for 2019, his tax is deducted under non residential rate. When come 2020, is the 182 days calculated from his join date or 1st Jan?

182 days is based on calendar year i.e Jan-Dec. If for 2019 he don't have enough 182 days, he can link 2019 and 2020 provided he did not leave Malaysia on 31 Dec and 1 Jan to link the 2 years together.
