May i know what is the difference between salary and allowance in the context of Malaysia?

Hi guys. Just curious. May I know the difference between salary and allowance? Why interns are only eligible to get allowance instead of salary? And for some full time job right, our pay is normally salary + allowance.

EPF is based on basic, which means allowance will not be counted

When company is having financial issues, they will cut off the allowance, not the salary

for same amount, Base salary is always better

Allowance rate is adjustable. Salary is fixed.
