How long should I work at a job before asking for a day off?
Is three months too soon for a day off?

It depends whether your vacation day is paid or just taking a day off and not getting paid?

3 - 6 months.

There is no "standard" answer. It really depends on the culture at your work or even the culture within your immediate team/group, your position/role, what's going on, as well as company policy. All of these can have a factor. That said - 3 months is more than enough time unless otherwise directed by policy. I've had staff that took time off within the first few weeks of starting. I've never said no. Of course, how that is perceived is very much dependant on how the person has been performing, how early the notification was made, etc.

Depends on your boss. Some bosses are chill about paid time off. If your boss is a workaholic and has a workaholic culture, days off are seen as traitorous.

As stated above, it all depends on the environment and culture. We had a new employee (less than three months) who recently asked for a day off to make it a three day weekend. No issues but we have a pretty chill manager. And it didn't affect the work load negatively either.

3 months is acceptable. THey know you and are comfortable with you.

Seems reasonable to me but I'm sure it varies on the work place.

Most places I've ever worked don't allow PTO earlier than 3-6 months. My previous employer had a 6-month wait time. That was a long 6 months! It's just 3 months at my current employer.

A single day? No. A week on short notice? Yes.

Well, don't you know the vacation policy? That would be your first guide. I think three months is a bit too soon to ask to take day off. Six months is more reasonable.

You should know your company's time off policy before enrollment.

How far in advance? If you're talking about this upcoming weekend, that's a bad combination of short notice and short employment. If it's 2-3 weeks out, it's a totally reasonable request. However, there should be clear PTO guidelines in your employee handbook.

My job is a minimum of 3 months before you can take a PTO day.

If 3 months is in the vacation handbook guide, then you should be fine. 2 and a half weeks notice for a 1 day PTO is fine. I started a job on 4/1 and request a PTO day on 8/2 when it hit 7/1.

It depends. Is this a seasonal business, is this the busy season, is anyone else taking off?
