Should we pay salary for new employee only work on 1st day?

We have 2 new employees only appear on 1st day on reporting date. Then disappear start 2nd day without notice. Both party haven't sign the offer letter yet. Should we pay the 1 day salary to them?

No, there is no need to pay, but do calculate their salary for records and audit purpose and minus the notice period that they have to pay in lieu as they did not serve notice. Do ensure to send them letters requesting them to explain their absence.

1
