It does seem like it’s very different from the vast amount of experience that you’ve already accumulated. If it’s because you believe data scientist is a better job with better pay, you have to realise that you’ll have to start at the bottom again ie Low pay. But yeah, it’s a red flag for an interviewer because seems like an unusual shift. Unless you can back it up with a lot of self learning / courses and a good motive. Most data people I know are naturally very analytical and data driven people who would not have liked doing BD for 14 years. The reverse may be true also.
